Mansker spar Eladda
Literally “Highborn spear monkey” in ancient elfish. This pivotal quote was first uttered by Queen Xeruda of the Drow over two thousand years ago. She wrote the phrase in a missive inked in poison to her soon to be deceased friend and confidant Hersch, high priestess to Lolth. She was referring to the General-King Oberran LII who had just trained cohors LVIII in the use of spears as well as swords. Scholars believe the letter was supposed to be delivered directly to the General-King, but that Queen Xeruda must have known Hersch was spying on her mail. The poisoned letter was addressed to both parties. Queen Xeruda probably felt that killing either would be beneficial to her cause.
The assassination of Hersch by Queen Xeruda was big news at the time, and the phrase Mansker spar Eladda slipped into the common drow tongue. Upon finding out he’d been insulted, and that there was a failed assassination attempt against him, Oberran LII swiftly mobilized his army, beginning the twelfth Drow-Eladrin war. He was consequently assassinated with the words takka Eladda tachens humerous doltus, engraved on his chest, literally “Learn to take a joke you highborn dolt.” This is another popular Drow phrase today.
